Cybersecurity has only become more important since COVID-19 changed the way that we work. Cyber attacks in all forms, including ransomware, are on the rise and in the news. How can you stay safe? While nothing will make you 100% secure, here are some tips to get you close!
- Anti-virus: Whether you have a Windows computer or a Mac, anti-virus is a must. We recommend a real-time antivirus that blocks all types of viruses, from ransomware to adware, such as Malwarebytes or Cylance.
- Passwords/2FA: If you are like over 70% of Americans surveyed, you use the same password for multiple websites. If one of those gets breached, hackers now have access to other potentially sensitive accounts. Make sure you use random passwords that are at least 8 characters with capital letters, numbers, and symbols. If your bank or other online account supports two-factor authentication, we highly recommend activating that!
- Phishing Scams/Education: Only click on emails you recognize. Sometimes, an email will appear to be from a legitimate service like Microsoft and want you to click a link or enter your credentials. Make sure you look at the sender of the email always before clicking a link or entering credentials to an e-mail!
- Back Up Your Data: Even when you take the proper precautions, a good enough hacker can theoretically breach your systems. You should always have an off-site cloud backup to ensure that all of your data can be restored in case of a breach.
