Southeast Area Transit District has partnered with local Website Design & IT Services firm Next Tech Solutions to create a brand-new, user focused website for the bus company. The new site is responsive, mobile compatible, and built with commuters in mind. Lead developer Christian Purple and CEO Connor McGill have been working closely with SEAT’s administrative staff to implement key features with the rider in mind.
These features include simplified online ticket purchases, ADA focused amenities including a built-in language translator, and useful rider information in an easy to view list. Routes and timetables are clearly listed and an embedded live map lets users see where their bus is in real-time. In the near future, SEAT will replace this live map with a new one using Google Transit. This will allow residents and riders to view travel options using their smartphones and Google Maps under the transit travel mode, making it extremely easy for riders to see their travel options and times.
Other features in the new website include historical information, fleet info, and a newsroom section where SEAT can directly provide updates and information regarding the future of the transit district. Users will also be provided live service updates from SEAT’s twitter feed embedded on the homepage. The new website is intended to offer riders in Southeastern CT a quicker and more concise source of info regarding the bus service.
This project took the NTS team approximately two months to complete – though actual development time for the initial alpha stage took 4 weeks, and the remaining time was largely working to finalize the concept, information and arrangement with the transit district.
